(19 June 1913, Thursday, Erick Altruist, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): Mr. John B. Baker who lived about seven miles southwest of Erick died at his home, June 14, 1913, and under the auspices of the Oddfellows lodge of Texola, he was burried (sic) at Texola Sunday June 15, 1913. Mr. Baker was a well known and highly respected citizen of this vicinity and death coming to him at the age of 46 years was a shock to his many friends. Mr. Baker came to Comanche County, Oklahoma, about ten years ago and from there he came to Beckham County about three years ago. He was a good neighbor and thrifty farmer; was a tenant on one of the Terretl Bros. farms last year and this year he was farming his own place which is located about seven miles southwest of Erick. He is survived by his widow and nine children, seven of whom live with their mother on the home place, and one son, John, who lives at Lawton, Oklahoma, and one son, Earl, makes his home in Iowa. Mr. Baker's untimely death is mourned by a large circle of friends and his bereaved loved ones have the heartfelt sympathy of the people of this community.
