She departed this life at her home in Erick, Oklahoma, August 22, 1933, at the age of 83 years, 3 months and 1 day. She gave her heart and life to Jesus and united with a Baptist Church at the early age of 12 years. She lived a noble, consecrated and consistent Christian life throughout every day of her sojourn on this earth, and stood ready to heed the beckoning call of her Savior whom she loved so well when he came to take her to the home that he had gone to prepare for her. She was married to John T. Brown November 28, 1865, and to this union was born one daughter. She leaves to mourn her home-going her daughter, Mrs. Jeff Gallegly, of Erick, Oklahoma; four grand-children, C. L. Gallegly of Erick Oklahoma; Miss Glennie Gallegly of Erick; John Gallegly of New York; and Mrs. Ersie Derrossett of Conroe, Texas; and one great-grand-child, Johnny Wayne Gallegly, of Erick, Oklahoma. She also leaves one nephew, Mr. George Hanks, of Doxey, Oklahoma, and two brothers, two half-brothers, and two half-sisters. Her husband preceded her in death, departing this life November 5th, 1922; also one great-grand-child; Bill Gallegly, preceded her in death on November 29, 1931. In speaking of this good woman, it is quite fitting that we mention the fact that her father, Thomas Hanks was a Baptist preacher for sixty years, forty of which he received no pay for his services. In addition to the persons mentioned above, "Grandma", as she was affectionately known to everyone in this town and community, leaves a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her going. The family would voice their deep appreciation to the many friends for their manifold kindness and deeds during the days of "Grandma's" sickness and death. A word of special appreciation is hereby extended to her physician, Dr. R. C. McCreery, who was constantly at her bed-side during her last illness, and who did everything possible from the human standpoint to sustain life, and to make her last hours on this earth as devoid of pain and suffering as it was possible for him to do. The funeral services were held in the First Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon, August 23, 1933, at 2:00 o'clock. Rev. W. A. Roberts, pastor of the above named church, officiated, being ably assisted by Rev. S. N. Wilson, a close and valued friend of the deceased, and of her survivors. The body of "Grand-Mother" Brown was laid to rest by the side of her noble husband in the Erick Cemetery to await the glad resurrection morning at the Judgment Day. Services were in charge of Fatheree Funeral Home. (31 Aug 1933, Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): We wish to extend thanks to the many friends who assisted during the illness and death of Grandmother Brown, for the kindly sympathy and the beautiful floral arrangements. Mr. and Mrs. Jeff L. Gallegly. Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Gallegly. Mr. and Mrs. L. K. Derrossett. John L. Gallegly. Glennie Gallegly. Johnnie Wayne Gallegly. ---------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
