HARRIET BURTON DIED. Prof. John T. Burton was greatly shocked last Tuesday morning when he made his accustomed visit to his mother's home next door to his own in East Erick to make the discovery that she had died suddenly during the night. She had frequently been troubled with heart disease and it is supposed that she had an attack during the night that resulted fatally. Mrs. Harriet N. Burton was the widow of Lemuel J. Burton. She was born in Tennessee about 62 years ago, removed in childhood to Missouri where she resided until about two years ago when she came to Erick and has lived here since that time. She had for years been a devoted member of the Methodist church and was a sweet spirited, gracious christian, loved by everyone with whom she came in contact. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. N. C. McKinley of near Cairo, Ill., two sons, Messrs. H. E. and J. T. Burton of Erick and numerous grandchildren besides three brothers and one sister as follows: Messrs Tyree and Mark Cooper who live in Missouri, and Thomas Cooper of Tennessee, and Mrs. Ezekiel Blanton of Missouri. Funeral services were conducted at the Erick cemetery Tuesday at 4 p.m., Rev. W. M. Taylor officiating. A large number of friends were present when the last sad rites were pronounced and interment made. (14 Oct 1909, Thursday, Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): Mrs. H. Burton, mother of Prof. J. T. and H. E. Burton, was found dead in bed Tuesday morning, October 12th. Mrs. Burton lived alone in a small house near Prof. Burton's and it was his custom on passing, to call her, but this morning she failed to respond, and thinking she was asleep, he passed on. After waiting for a while, he again went to the house and receiving no answer to his summons, went in only to find that his mother had passed peacefully away some time during the night. Death seemed to have come without a struggle as her hands were under the cover. Mrs. Burton was 62 years old and besides the two sons, leaves a large circle of relatives and friends. We tender our sympathy in their affliction. Interment at Erick cemetery, Tuesday, Rev. W. M. Taylor officiating.
