BURTON, MARTHA J.
(22 Aug 1918, Thursday, Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK):
Mrs. M. J. Burton was born in the year 1892 (sic).  Was married to J. B.
Burton in 1876 to this union was born two daughters and one son, Mrs. Olie
Burton of Erick, Mrs. Ida Kerby of Oklahoma City and Prof. Sam Burton of
Weatherford.
Aunt Martha, as she was commonly known, came to Oklahoma with her husband
and children in 1890, when the country was new and settled on a claim
eight miles south east of Erick, afterwards moved to Erick where she lived
until the death of her husband, she then went to live with her daughter in
Oklahoma City where she died surrounded by all her children on the 10th of
Aug. and was buried in the Erick Cemetery on Aug. 11th, funeral was
conducted by her Pastor Rev. C. P. Broome of the Methodist Church.
Aunt Martha was known by many and loved by all who knew her, and many were
the kind deeds she did for the sick for she was a mother to all.  The
family has the sympathy of many friends.
