(1 Apr 1909, Thursday, Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): DIED. At his home about six miles south-west of Erick, last Saturday afternoon, Mr. Byrd died after but a few hours illness. He was attacked with cramps and his bowels became locked on Friday night of last week and there could be no relief administered until death came late Saturday afternoon. The remains were shipped to Millsap, Texas, his former home, for interment, accompanied by his surviving wife. (1 Apr 1909, Erick Altruist, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): DIED. AT his home 6 miles southwest of Erick Saturday evening, March 27, Mr. L. J. Byrd, after an illness of only four days. When the end came Mr. Byrd was surrounded by his immediate family and his father and brother of Millsap, Texas, who arrived here the day of his death. Mr. Byrd came to Oklahoma about a year ago from Texas and has made a host of friends. He was a fine young man only 25 years old. He is survived by his widow, his father, L. J. Byrd, Sr., and several brothers and sisters. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the home and his remains were accompanied by his wife, father and brother to his former home at Milsap (sic), Texas. The Altruist voices the sentiment of the people of this community by expressing sincere sympathy for Mr. Byrd's surviving loved ones.
