CAIN, JOSEPH E., Rev.
(22 Aug 1918, Thursday, Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK):
The Editor returned from our trip to Kansas, last Sunday where we had gone
to attend the funeral of our uncle, Rev. J. E. Cain of Wichita, Kans. who
died Aug. 12th.  The funeral was posponed (sic) until Saturday the 17th,
awaiting the arrival of Rev. F. E. Rowe, of Cincinatta, O. (sic) owner of
the Christian Leader, of which Rev. Cain was the Editor, who preached the
funeral sermon.
The funeral had a large attendance, from a number of states, as the
deceased was one of the leading preachers and editors of the Church of
Christ.  Since his boyhood days, he began preaching at nineteen, he has
been very active in his work.  He organized and built a great number of
Churches and his converts were numbered in the thousands.  He was perhaps
the best known and most highly honored of that denomination in the
Southwest.  He was a man of great talent and exceptional power as a
preacher and writer and devoted his life to the work.
He was a man of great personality and numbered his friends by legions, who
were of all stations of life,  high and low, both in and out of the
Church.
He died as he lived, in the harness, as he continued to write for the
Leader up until but a few days before his death.  He was as good man,
faithfull (sic) to his trust; his great work will stand as a monument to
his memory for years to come and we feel assured he has entered into the
reward for his labors.
