CATHEY, J. R.
(9 Jul 1908, Erick Altruist, Erick, Beckham Co, OK):
J. R. Cathey, the father of our fellow townsman, H. L. Cathey, died rather
unexpectedly last Saturday, July 4, at the home of his son.  Mr. Cathey
was an agreeable old gentleman of the old school.  He was more than 89
years of age and until shortly before he died, remarkably active in body
and mind.  He was born in Tennessee, but was a pioneer in Texas, having
located there more than forty years ago.  He came to Oklahoma to reside
about 7 years ago, since which time he has lived with his son, H. L.
Cathey.
Mr. Cathey had been a consistent member of the Presbyterian church for
more than 70 years, although of late he was too feeble to get out to
church services.  Rev. Robertson conducted funeral services at the home
Sunday, and interment was made in the Erick cemetery the same day.
He is survived by one daughter and four sons, as follows:  Mrs. J. R.
Lane, of Morgan, Texas; J. J. Cathey of Romie; S. W. Cathey, of Purvis; W.
J. Cathey of Star; and H. L. Cathey of this place.
The Altruist extends condolences to the bereaved relatives and friends of
Mr. Cathey.
