"TOM" (9 Jun 1910, Erick Altruist, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): Mr. Timothy A. Davis, an old and highly respected citizen living about seven miles southwest of Erick, died at his home last Monday morning, June 6, at 9 o'clock, and was buried on Tuesday at the Delhi cemetery. The funeral services were held at the late residence of the deceased, conducted by Rev. J. F. Elder. Burial services were conducted by the Delhi Masonic Lodge, assisted by Brethren from the Erick Masonic Lodge. Mr. Davis was born in Georgia about 79 years ago, and later in life emigrated to Mississippi, and from there to Oklahoma, coming here and settling on the farm on which he died, about six years ago. He had been a member of the M. E. Church 43 years and a member of the Masonic fraternity 57 years. He had been in poor health most of the time since coming to Oklahoma. He leaves a wife and four children and one sister, Mrs. S. E. Dowdell, all residents of the Delhi community to mourn his loss. Deceased was a man of general impulse and never forgot the hospitable ways of the pioneer. He had borne adversity bravely, and enjoyed prosperity quietly. He had filled the various relations of life as son, husband, father, brother, friend, and filled them well. But he is gone. Another name is stricken from the ever lessening roll of our old settlers, and a solitary woman, in the sunset of life, and a lonely home are left, to attest how saddly (sic) they will miss him. It must be so; these tender human ties cannot be severed without a pang. Yet, in such a death there is really no cause for grief. His life's work was done, and well done. He had passed his golden wedding day, and weary with life's duties and cares, weary of suffering and waiting, he lay down to rest. (9 Jun 1910, Thursday, Sayre Standard, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): I attended the funeral services of old Brother Tom Davis today at the Delhi cemetery. He was buried by the Masonic order. Brother Davis had been a Mason for 57 years, and his membership at the time of his death was at Delhi Lodge No. 340. He was a charter member of that lodge. (9 Jun 1910, Thursday, Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): Grandpa T. A. Davis, living east of Erick, died last Monday morning at 9 a.m., age 78 years. The remains was laid to rest in the Delhi cemetery Tuesday evening. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
