DAVIS, LEDA
(31 Oct 1918, Thursday, Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK):
Mrs. Leda Riley-Davis.  (Note:  Buried as "Riley".)
Mrs. Jeff Davis died at the home of her husbands parents two miles East of
Erick Monday Oct. 28th after a very brief illness.  Until the last moment
it was hoped that her husband might reach her bed side but he did not and
the supposition is that he is started to France.
The funeral occured (sic) Tuesday afternoon at four o'clock.  Because of
the epidemic a very brief service was conducted by her Pastor Rev. Finley
and comforting hymns were sung all in the open.
The scores of friends and relatives were permitted to view the remains as
it rested in the rich soft grey casket.  The expression was natural and
life-like and robed in her beautiful white dress, she gave one the
impression of being in the company of a bride rather than in the presence
of death.
We can not here pay the deserved tribute to the sweet life and character
of the deceased.  She was quiet and unassuming but an intellectual and
high-bred young woman, ardently loved by her family, and the many Erick
friends of Mrs. Davis feel unbounded sympathy for the bereaved families
and the absent husband whose grief might have been softened could he have
comforted her last hours with his presence or seen the body lowered into
the grave and mother earth close over all that was mortal of beloved Leda.
