Evans Dead It is our sad function in this issue of the Altruist to chronicle the death of Mrs. G. W. Evans, who died at her home in south Erick about 5 o'clock p.m., Friday July 15. Fannie Adeline Evans was born in Hickman county, Kentucky, November 22, 1834. Together with her family she removed to Missouri in 1884, from there to Texas in 1890 and to Oklahoma in 1901. Mrs. Evans had been a great sufferer for a number of years and had been unable to rise from her bed since August 10, 1908. During these last two years she has been tenderly cared for by her devoted husband, a larger portion of suffering than most people have been called upon to bear furnishes unquestioned evidence that all was well between her and her God. Funeral services were conducted by her neighbor, Rev. C. P. Browning, Saturday morning July 16 and interment was made at the Erick cemetary. Mrs. Evans is survived by her husband, G. W. Evans, and three sons, G. M. of southeast Missouri, G. J., who lives seven miles Southeast of Erick and W. H. Evans who lives with her. Besides these there are 19 grandchildren and numerous other relatives less near akin to her, all of whom sincerely mourn her death but are comforted by the knowledge that if such knowledge can be humanly acquired that their loved one has been mercifully relieved from pitiable human suffering and is now glorious with the Christ whom she so faithfully served. Owing to her physical inability to get out Mrs. Evans had not a wide circle of personal acquaintances. Her devoted husband and son who lived with her, were untiringly attentive to her in her helplessness and they, perhaps, more keenly than the rest, will feel bereft because of her demise. The people of this community extend to Mrs. Evans surviving loved ones their most sincere condolence. Her husband, two of her sons and several of her grandchildren were present when the end came. Messrs. G. W., W. H. and G. J. Evans wish to express their appreciation to the neighbors and friends who were so kind to them during the hours of their loved ones illness. (21 Jul 1910, Thursday, Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): Mrs. Fannie Analine (sic) Evans was born November 22, 1834, in Hickman county, Ky., and died in Erick, Oklahoma, July 15, 1910 at 5:10 o'clock p.m. In the year 1856 on February 16, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Evans were united in marriage. To this union seven children were born, four boys and three girls, of whom only three sons survive their mother. For the past two years Mrs. Evans has been confined to her bed, and all that medical skill could do was done to help her, and her devoted husband and son were constantly at her bed side. Mrs. Evans united with the M. E. Church South in 1875, of which she remained a devoted member until her death. The remains were layed (sic) to rest in the Erick cemetery Saturday morning. Rev. Browning of the Presbyterian church conducted the funeral service. A large number of friends were present at the services. The Democrat extends condolence to the bereaved husband and sons. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
