W. Evans was born in Hickman county, Kentucky, January 23rd, 1838, and died January 12th, 1927, in Erick, Okla. He married to Miss Fannie A. Clarke, February 21st, 1856. To this union was born nine children, six boys and three girls. Only two of his children survive him, Mr. E. M. Evans of Missouri and G. J. Evans of Texola, Oklahoma. He married a second time to Miss Ella D. Dickerson, who also survives him. Brother Evans was one of the oldest living settlers of Beckham County, and made friends of those whom he met. He was a devout Christian, having united with the Methodist Church at a very early age in Kentucky, and remained true to the ideals of Christ and his God until the Angel of Death took him to his final resting place. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Erick, and had the honor of being, with one exception, the oldest living Mason in the state when death took him, having been a member for sixty eight years. His last days are held in sweet memory by all who knew him; his sweet spirit was always an inspiration to those with whom he came in contact to be more loyal to their fellowman and God. His pastor, Alva R. Hutchinson. CARD OF THANKS. We thank the good people for their help and kindness during the illness and death of our father, husband and grandfather. The Masons have been so good and kind to him we can never forget that great and grand order. Mrs. G. W. Evans, G. J. Evans, Abbie Evans, A. B. Hutto, Stella Hutto, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Funderburg, J. J. Funderburg, Gertrude Funderburg. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
