(4 Dec 1929, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): COUNTY PIONEER DIES IN ERICK. G. B. Everett, of Erick, pioneer resident of Beckham county, died Tuesday morning, in an Erick hospital, after an illness of five days with pneumonia. Mr. Everett came to Oklahoma in the early days and settled on a claim near the present city of Erick. He was very influential in his community, serving on the school board, and always politically active in all elections. He has served as precinct committeeman from his precinct for the past ten years, and has served as County Commissioner of the third district for two terms. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Olive Everett and several children. Final arrangements for the funeral have not been made. (5 Dec 1929, Thursday, Erick Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): G. B. (Bert) Everett, 50, pioneer citizen of this community, died early Tuesday morning in the Erick hospital, following a short illness of pneumonia, which malady was contracted on a recent trip to Wichita, Kansas. His condition grew worse until last Saturday it was decided to bring him to the Erick hospital for treatment and all efforts to revive him failing he passed away as stated above. Mr. Everett was one of the earliest settlers in this community having moved here with his parents from Alabama in 1899, his father having filed for homestead on the farm home now occupied by the Everetts. From 1901 to 1904 Mr. Everett was engaged in the general mercantile business in Erick, being the first store of its kind established after the town was founded. Mr. Everett served this county several years back as Commissioner and from time to time held other positions of trust in the community. The body is being held at the family home. Funeral arrangements to be announced by D. G. Fatheree, Funeral Director, later. The funeral of George Burton Everett, who died here early this week is to be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, from the home of the deceased southwest of town according to announcement of D. G. Fatheree, funeral director. The last rites will be said by Rev. B. A. Etherage of this city followed by interment in the Erick Cemetery.
