(7 Apr 1938, Thursday, Erick Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): Again the hand of death reached into our midst Wednesday noon and called one of the leading pioneer farmers of this section. Jeff L. Gallegly 73 years old, died at his home two miles west of Erick during an illness of a week's duration. "Uncle Jeff" with his family moved to the farm near Erick in 1904 from Lick Creek, Illinois. He has lived there from that time and it may truly be said that he numbered his friends by his acquaintances. He was stricken with paralysis Tuesday night, March 29 and steadily grew weaker from that time until his death. Funeral arrangements are pending receipt of messages from two of his brothers in distant states and his son John, who is now in Alaska. (14 Apr 1938, Thursday, Erick Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): Jeff L. Gallegly was born in Illinois, October 22, 1864. He was married to Miss Dora B. Brown August 15, 1889. To this union 5 children were born, one having preceded him in death while yet in infancy. He was converted about 45 years ago but never united with a church. He departed this life April 6, 1938 at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 15 days. He came to this country in 1904 and located at the present place of residence and where he lived at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters, namely, Clifton of Erick, John H. of Seward, Alaska, Mrs. Ersie Derrossett, Conroe, Texas, and Glennie of the home address. One grandson, Johnnie Wayne and a great granddaughter, Carol Kay, both of Conroe. Two brothers, E. O. Gallegly of Buncombe, Illinois, and Harvey Gallegly of Los Angeles, California. An uncle, Elmer T. Gallegly of Anna, Illinois, and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his departure. Mr. Gallegly is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dora Gallegly of Erick, two sons, C. L. Gallegly of Erick and John of Alaska; two daughters, Glennie Gallegly of Erick and Mrs. Ersie Derrossett of Conroe, Texas; one grandson, Johnny Wayne Gallegly and a great granddaughter, tiny Carol Kay, also of Conroe, Texas. (14 Apr 1938, The Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham County, OK): Funeral services for Jeff L. Gallegly, pioneer Erick farmer, who succumbed Wednesday noon to a stroke of paralysis, were held at 2 p.m. Monday from the Erick Baptist church, with Rev. D. D. Barber, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. W. O. Bucy, local Methodist minister. Mr. Gallegly suffered his first attack about a week before his death. He was 73 years of age and had been living on a farm southwest of here since 1904. He is survived by his widow, two sons, Clifton L. of Erick, and John of Seward, Alaska, and two daughters, Gennie (sic) of Erick, and Mrs. Derrosset of Conroe, Tex.
