(Other articles): A cyclone that took a heavy toll of life and injured scores of people struck the town of Bethany, 5 miles west of Oklahoma City, Wednesday morning and left wreck and ruin in its wake. Latest reports stated 30 were killed and at least 100 more or less injured. Property damage was estimated at $350,000. G. L. Cagle, son-in-law of Lem Gibson, of Erick, received injuries which are thought will prove fatal when his fine brick home was reported completely wrecked. Mr. Cagle is being cared for in an Oklahoma City hospital. Mrs. Cagle was here at the bedside of her mother Mrs. Lem Gibson, who died Wednesday, when news of the cyclone reached Erick Wednesday afternoon. Fears are felt for others of this city and community who were attending school in Bethany and from whom no word had come up to noon today. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
