Grandma Hicks (as she was loveingly called by everyone), was converted and joined the Missionary Baptist church, at the age of fourteen years, where her membership, remained until 1923. During a revival, conducted by C. F. O'Connor, of Erick, and J. B. Seaberry of Fort Worth, in the second Advent Christian Church at Lela Hill, near Shamrock. She and her husband united with the Adventist church at this time, holding membership with this church until her death. She was a good member, always in her place at church when possible. Her presence was appreciated by everyone. For to know her was to love her, she was a true wife, a tender loving mother of 12 children, three dying in infancy. She reared nine of her own family, and six grandchildren. She leaves to mourn her loss, nine children, 42 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Six of her children being present when death came. One daughter arrived from Arizona in time for the funeral. Grandma Hicks, leaves a host of friends in every community she ever lived in. She was highly esteemed in the Lela Hill and Shamrock communities, as was testified to at her funeral. By the presence of 1500 people and a procession two miles long, that followed her to her last resting place. She was laid to rest beside her husband, in the Shamrock Cemetery. There to await the call of the Life-Giver. Words of comfort were spoken by the writer, from Psalms, 116:15. Precious in the sight of the Lord, is the death of his Saints. - C. F. O'Connor.
