O. Hood, died last Friday at 1:30 o'clock, p.m. of typhoid fever. She was a very lovable child, a member of the Christian church and a regular attendant at Sunday School and church services. While yet the innocence and sweetness of childhood's happy hours were hers the Master beckoned her to the other shore. Funeral services were conducted at the Christian church Saturday morning by Elder H. E. Stubbs, assisted by Elder J. J. Lockhart. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved ones in their hour of sorrow. (29 Jul 1909, Erick Altruist, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): Last Friday afternoon the death angel spread its wings over Little Luellen Hood and said God had need of her, and the loved ones stood back and saw her pass before them and ascend that shining pathway, which now reaches back to them. To know her was to love her. Sweet spirited, gentle, unselfish, thinking first of all of her parents, then her teacher and her classmates. They all loved her because she loved them. A dutiful child, an obedient and painstaking pupil, always with well prepared lessons. She had a little winning unselfish way of creeping into your heart before you were aware of it and she was such a comfort you would not have it otherwise. A life as pure as hers is always pure, even while it errs, like "Sunshine broken in a still, though turned away is sunshine still." She was my pupil at different times for three years, and I can say she was a rare flower of sweetest fragrance, and "Like a cloud, a lovely cloud, on a summer's day floats out of the heat of the land, o'er the sea, so passed her sweet life away." Mrs. E. D. Pritchard. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
