(8 Sep 1904, Greer County Republican, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): In Memoriam. Died, at his home in this city, on September 3rd, 1904, W. E. Hood, aged 55 years. It is with feelings of deep sorrow that we find ourself called upon to chronicle the death of W. E. Hood, for of all the citizenship of our town no one stood more highly in the estimation of all our people than did the deceased. We are safe in saying that he had not a single enemy, but everyone knew him only to love and admire him as a man and a citizen. Mr. Hood was born near Rome, Ga., in 1849, removed to Texas where he later married Miss Coffey. The family removed to Oklahoma in 1898 to make their permanent home, settling near Delhi in this county. He leaves a wife and three children, all married, and a host of friends to mourn his loss. Mr. Hood has for long years been an honored member of the Masonic fraternity, and in harmony with his request and the desire of the order here the remains were interred by the usual impressive rites and ceremonies of Masonry. The Warlord was a master of ceremonies, assisted by H. A. Russell, W. M. of Sayre lodge, and J. A. Minton of Erick as chaplain. The Republican extends its sincere sympathy and condolence to the widow and family of the deceased. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
