(29 Aug 1907, Erick Altruist, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): Mr. A. W. Horn, Died Today. Just as we were about to go to press the sad intelligence reaches us that our highly esteemed fellow towns-man Mr. A. W. Horn died this morning at just about the break of day surrounded by his wife and three of his children. Mr. Horn had been sick for only about two weeks with a sort of catarrhal fever; but being well advanced in years he was not robust and was unable to survive the ravages of a continued high fever although he had most devoted nursing and medical attention under the skilled direction of Dr. Wells. Mr. Horn was born at Columbus, Ohio in 1845 and lived there for about 45 years during which time he was married to Miss Amanda Getzendanner during the year 1880 he moved together with his family to Sherman, Grayson County, Texas, where he lived until he came to Erick about two years ago. Because of his sweet spirited gentle manner and upright Christian life, Mr. Horn became endeared to all those with whom he became acquainted and his death is sincerely mourned. He had been a consistent member of the Presbyterian Church since early manhood and his wise counsel and support will be missed by our church here at Erick. Besides his immediate family consisting of his wife and daughter, Miss Abbie, Mr. Horn is survived by his daughter, Mrs. O. H. Ward of Erick, Mr. J. C. Horn of Ft. Worth, Texas, each of whom were present when the end came, and Mrs. W. J. Hollingsworth of White Mound, Texas, a daughter who was unable to get here. Funeral services at the Horn residence at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning conducted by Rev. M. C. Liddell, Pastor of the Presbyterian Church, assisted by W. T. Matthews of Durant, I.T., who is now conducting a series of revival meetings here. The Altruist extends most sincere sympathy to the bereaved family of Mr. Horn. He is not dead, he is just away. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
