Luman, formerly, Mrs. Annie Larramore, died last Thursday morning near Story, Tex. as she was enroute from Erick to New Mexico overland accompanied by her husband and children. Mrs. Luman had been in failing health due to the ravages of consumption for more than eight months prior to her death during which time her husband with untiring devotion had provided every means possible to afford her relief at last hoping against hope he started with her for the high altitude of New Mexico, making the journey in a comfortably arranged wagon, but before they had been many days on the road, it became apparent that the death angel hovered near and one week ago today as they were along the road near Story, Tex., Mr. Luman underwent the saddening experience of watching beside the crude couch upon which lay his dying wife. Realizing that the end was near he had telephoned for a physician, but Mrs. Luman peacefully passed away before the doctor arrived. Shortly before she died she called paintively (sic) for her family physician, Dr. Wells of Erick. Immediately Mr. Luman's brother Clyde of Erick was telephoned to and he secured the services of an embalmer from Sayre who prepared the remains for removal back to Erick for burial. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Elder, Friday at 5:30 p.m. and interment was made at the Erick cemetery. Although the death of Mrs. Luman was not unexpected, the news of it cast a gloom over the people of this entire community where she was universally esteemed for her beautiful submissive christian character. Mr. Gilbert A. Luman and Mrs. Annie Larramore were married at her home at Evansville, Ark., Dec. 31, 1904, soon after which time they came to Beckham county to a fine farm near Erick. During the years of their married life their home has been conspicious because of the tender devotion that existed there and since she first became ill about eight months ago her husband and children have exhausted every possible means that she might be nursed back to robust health. She became united with the Methodist church when she was a girl of 16 years since which time for 25 years she had been a consistent christian lady, being at the time of her death a faithful member of the Dabney Church. Besides her husband, Mrs. Luman is survived by two little daughters, Misses Andie Bell and Velma, aged 5 and 2 1/2 years respectively and her 17 year old son, Burton Holland, who lives with his step-father, Mr. Luman, also three brothers and three sisters who live in Kansas, Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma, survive her. Her sister, Miss Bell Laramore who had been with her for several months prior to her death returned to her home at Evansville, Ark., yesterday. Mr. Lumas' bereavement is especially saddening in that his former wife died in a wagon about 9 years ago as they were enroute from Ardmore, Oklahoma to Greer county, as they were driving along Mrs. Luman fell from the wagon and was run over receiving injuries from which she died soon after with no one in attendance but her heart broken husband. Mr. Luman and his splendid family of motherless children have the heartfelt sympathy of all the people of this community in this time of utter bereavement, also they have the comforting assurance that their loved one is now enjoying the precious inheritance that is the portion of one who lived and died as did Mrs. Annie Luman. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
