Funeral services were held Wednesday. The Democrat extends condolence to the bereaved family and relatives. (30 Mar 1911, Thursday, Sayre Standard, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Mrs. Barbara Mounts, wife of N. S. Mounts, died Tuesday, March 28, 1911. Funeral services were held at the Christian church on Wednesday afternoon, March 29th, conducted by Elder J. C. Howard, after which the body was laid to rest in the Sayre Cemetery. The Knights of Pythias attended the funeral in a body, while the church was crowded with sympathizing friends. Barbara J. Royer was born April 4, 1850, near Bellefountain, Ohio, and was married to N. S. Mounts in June 1881, who still survives her with three children, W. O. Mounts, Clint Mounts and Mrs. Cornelia E. Julian. She joined the Christian church when about eighteen years of age, and had lived a consistent christian life. Rev. Howard paid a fine tribute to the life of Mrs. Mounts. Having lived neighbors for six years in the pioneer days of old Roger Mills county, he felt he knew her well and could say she was one of the kindest hearted and best women he had ever met. (31 Mar 1911, Friday, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Our community has again suffered a loss in the departure from this life of a beloved member in the person of Mrs. N. S. Mounts, whose death occurred at 11 o'clock Tuesday night. Mrs. Mounts was born near Belle Fontaine, Ohio, on April 4th, 1850, and was married to N. S. Mounts, our worthy county commissioner from the 1st district, at Winfield, Kansas, in 1881. She was the mother of three surviving children, Mrs. J. A. Julian of Chickasha, W. O. Mounts and Clint Mounts of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Mounts came to Roger Mills Co. in 1899 and started the "Berlin Venture" and at about the same time settled on a piece of land on Long Creek. Their residence in Sayre was taken up about four years ago though Mr. Mounts has been identified with the interests of Sayre almost since its inception and the family has a host of friends to extend them sympathy in this their hour of bereavement. Burial services were held at the Christian church on Wednesday afternoon under the auspices of the Knights of Pythias and interment in the Sayre Cemetery. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
