L. Noblett (sic), who died last Friday, Dec. 22, at 10 a.m., at the home of his son in Chickasha, Okla., where he had been taking treatments for the past month. The remains were shipped to Erick, and the Masonic lodge of Erick took charge. The funeral services were held at the Christian Church, and the remains were laid to rest in the Erick cemetery. Next week's Democrat will contain his obituary. (4 Jan 1923, Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): Dr. Tilmon LeRoy Noblitt was born at Green City or (Kidville) Sullivan county, Missouri, on February 10, 1873; died December 22, 1922, at Chickasha, Okla. Shortly after his birth his parents moved to Kirksville, Mo., where his father practiced medicine and where he went to school, graduating from the high school at 17 years of age. He also held degrees from Iowa Christian College of Oskaloosa, Iowa; Christian College of Texas and Electric Medical College of Kansas City, Missouri. He was honored with two graduations in medicine because of the high standard of hospital work in his senior year. He passed two state medical examinations, Oklahoma and Kansas. Was elected to fill Chair of Anatomy and Prescription Writing in Electric College, where he taught for a number of years. He became a Christian at fifteen years of age, began preaching and lecturing at twenty-one. To his first marriage were born four children, two boys and two girls, and to his second marriage three boys, all of whom are living. He has taught besides public and Academic teaching in early life, in Teachers State College at Weatherford, Okla., Phillips University at Enid, Okla., Missouri Academy, at Gorin, Mo., and Electric Medical College, Kansas City, Mo. He has held church pulpits at Kansas City, Guthrie, Okla., McAlester, Okla., Elk City, Okla., and Erick. In connection with his church and lodge work of Masons, Yoeman and Woodman, he was always prominently connected with the charity associations, giving of time and means to relieve those in distress. If he had a hobby in life it was of caring with lovingness for those who could not care for themselves. None but those intimately connected with his life knew how he loved to do for helpless youth, old age or the downtrodden from whatsoever cause. In the death of Dr. Noblitt, Erick loses a citizen of unusual ability, a man that was always ready to do his part for the advancement of his fellowmen, one who was a gifted orator and when called upon at any occasion was ready to take up the subject and discuss it in an intelligent manner, and his arguments were convincing. He was always pleasant and joking with the boys, and in all the years we have known him never did we find him in a bad humor. He was a good citizen - May his soul rest in peace. CARD OF THANKS We wish to thank all the good people in Erick for the kindness and untiring efforts shown, during the illness and death of our beloved father, husband, brother and son. Words cannot express our appreciation and gratitude, and may God bless you all. Mrs. T. L. Noblitt and family. Sister - Mrs. E. E. Tidings. Brothers - W. T. Noblitt, J. D. Noblitt, A. D. Noblitt. Father - W. P. Noblitt. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
