Reains died at their home northeast of Erick last Sunday morning. Miss Ethel has been a patient sufferer for a long time and her death was not unexpected, although the poor child herself was hopeful until shortly before the end came. Her illness and death was exceptionally pitiful as she was motherless and the only child of a doting father. Mr. Reains has the heartfelt sympathy of all who know him, which means the entire community. Miss Ethel was buried in the Erick cemetery Monday afternoon. (7 Jun 1906, Greer County Republican, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): Obituary. That unwelcome visitor has again visited our community; this time the home of our neighbor and friend, Wm. L. Rains, and taken from our midst his oldest daughter, Pheba Ethel, who was born January 2, 1891, died June 3, 1906. Pheba was a good girl, obedient to her parents, kind and loving to all whom she came in contact with. As a student in school she was studious and willing to learn her lessons well; one of the teachers told writer that she seemed to live in another age for she was unusually bright for one of her age, though she had to quit school early in January of this year. She was confined to her bed from that time till she died. She was a patient sufferer, for she bore her suffering without a murmur. She seemed to realize that the grim monster was approaching, a few days before her death she said, "I will never get well." Although all was done for her that loving hands and kind friends could do, with the help of doctors, yet her spirit returned to the God who gave it. Funeral services were held at the grave, conducted by Rev. L. B. Anderson. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
