Rains, died at her home in southwest Erick Thursday, June 19, 1913, about midnight after having combatted for months the dreadful ravages of tuberculosis she passed away at peace with her God and all mankind. During the months of her illness everything that medical science could suggest was done for her relief and her devoted husband and family were untiring in their tender care for her. She had spent months at health resorts and had been constantly attended by skillful physicians and nurses. Mrs. Rains was a sweet spirited christian lady and had for years been a faithful member of the Methodist Church. The grief of her surviving loved ones is in a measure subdued by the assurance that she was right with God. Mrs. Rains was born Sept. 29, 1869, in Cook county, Texas, and lived there until 1901 when she came to Oklahoma and since that time she has become universally beloved by the people of this community. On January 1, 1903, she was married to Thomas A. Rains, and to this union was born two children, Ray, age nine and Jennie, age six. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Friday, June 20, under the auspices of the Fraternal Union of America and the Knights and Ladies of Security. Rev. Proctor, pastor of the Methodist church, conducted the services and spoke comforting words to Mrs. Rains' bereaved survivors. Interment was made in the Erick Cemetery. Mrs. Rains is survived by her husband and their two children, Roy and Jennie, besides one child, Master Duke Lock, aged thirteen, one brother, Mr. Lee Powell and others less nearly akin relatives, all of whom have the heartfelt sympathy of this community. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
