Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Rook's home was there (sic) first stop, where they were met by Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Rook and W. S. Rook of Sayre and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Wallace of Shamrock and a "big" dinner was enjoyed as well as a happy family gathering. Mr. and Mrs. John Rook lived in Erick the first year of their married life and if the writer has it right - we believe John and bride rode in the donkey cart up and down the streets of Erick, some four or five years back - the way Erickites used to initiate the newly-weds. (10 Nov 1927, Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Rook was called to Colorado Springs Sunday on account of the death Sunday morning of Mr. Rooks brother John who had been in failing health for several months. Miss Myrtle Rook was ill the first of the week and was unable to attend the funeral of her brother Jno. who died in Colorado Springs, Sunday. (17 Nov 1927, Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): M. B. Rook returned Thursday from Colorado Springs where he went to bury his brother John who died last Sunday morning. (18 Nov 1927, Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): Former Carter Citizen Dies at Colo. Springs We notice in the Sayre Headlight an account of the death of Mr. John Rook, son of Mr. W. S. Rook, and a former citizen of Carter. Mr. Rook died on November 6th at the Modern Woodman Hospital at Colorado Springs where he had been under treatment for the past year and half. Mr. Rook has many friends in Carter as he and his brother, Marion Rook, were in the dry goods business here several years ago, moving from here to Sayre and later to Erick. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
