Sanders of Delhi passed away at 8:30 Wednesday morning. He had been ill for two weeks with typhoid fever, and was thought to being getting along nicely. Dr. Sanders was an early settler in this country, having practiced at Delhi a number of years, and has a number of friends there who had utmost faith in his ability as a physician. He also practiced here about two years ago and went from here to Reed where he stayed until four months ago, when he and Mrs. Pauline Sanders moved to Delhi where they had intended to remain permanently. Doctor Sanders has many friends in and near Erick that are sorry to learn of his death and join the Democrat in extending sympathy to the loved ones. (25 Jun 1925, Sayre Journal, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Dr. J. S. Sanders, pioneer physician of Delhi died following attack of pneumonia and asthmatic troubles on last Tuesday and funeral services and interment were made at Delhi on Thursday of last week. Dr. Sanders practiced medicine at Delhi during the pioneer days. From there he went to Geary, Oklahoma, later returning to Delhi where he continued his practice. During the past few years he tried to retire from the practice, but his many friends and former patients insisted on his visits to the sick in that community. Dr. Sanders was one of the high-class pioneer citizens, and he early developed the habit of weighing things in the balance of reason. He believed in doing good to humanity and in this he gave the best that was in him. His convictions were honest and sincere, resulting from much careful study and analysis on his part and with which he calmly met the fate of all flesh. Thus, has passed another pioneer of this great country. Dr. Sanders help (ed) to build and make it possible that those who came later might go on with the development in this section of Oklahoma. Dr. Sanders fully realized that the end of this life was the time eternity began, and the bright faith which sustained him during the trying hours of suffering would only grow brighter as he journed (sic) toward the infinite, and the final gloom of death he dispelled by the radiance of God's love. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
