(18 Jun 1908, Thursday, Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): Grandpa Scott who resided in the south part of the county, but who has been visiting relatives in Erick for the past month, died in Erick Tuesday and was buried Wednesday in the Erick cemetery by the Masonic Lodge of Erick. He was an ex-Confederate soldier, formerly from Kentucky, but a resident of this county for several years, loved and respected by all who enjoyed his acquaintance. The old soldiers are fast passing away and in a few years will have become a recollection only to the rising generation. Peace to his ashes. (18 Jun 1908, Thursday, Erick Altruist, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): Richard C. Scott died at the home of G. W. Evans last Tuesday at 10 p.m. His death was due to a severe attack of bowel trouble. Mr. Scott was originally from Kentucky but came here a few years ago from Texas. He owns a farm about 10 miles south of Erick. He was a faithful member of the Methodist church and a Mason. His Masonic brethren assisted by Rev. W. M. Taylor, officiated at his funeral service, which was held Tuesday evening from G. W. Evans' home, where Mr. Scott was visiting at the time of his death. Mr. Scott is survived by his widow and his sons, John H. Scott, besides two other sons. The Altruist together with other friends, offers condolence to the bereaved loved ones of Mr. Scott. Scott. (9 Jul 1908, Thursday, Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): Resolutions of Respect Hall of Erick Lodge No. 109, A.F.&A.M. Erick, Okla., June 16, 1908. At a regular meeting of the Erick Lodge, No. 109, A.F.&A.M., the following preamble and resolutions were adopted. Whereas, In the inscrutable providence of God, our Brother Richard C. Scott, has been called from labor to reward, and, Whereas, our brother has been faithful to his Masonic obligation and his God, has gone in and out before us, with a happy cheerful countenance, therefore be it Resolved, 1st, That we hereby express our deep sorrow at his death, yet we rejoice that he died in the triumph of a christian faith, 2nd, That we extend to the grief stricken family, our sincere sympathy and affectionate condolence, and direct the secretary of this lodge to present them with a copy of this memorial. 3d, That we wear the usual badge of mourning thirty days as an evidence of our high appreciation of his merits that the action of this lodge touching the death of this dear brother be recorded in the minutes and a page set apart for his memory; 5th, That a copy of these resolutions be sent to the Erick Altruist and Beckham County Democrat with a request for publication.
