Singleton one of our best farmers while plowing in his field last Monday, was taken suddenly ill, quit work and took (to) his bed and died that night. His bowels became locked and no relief could be had. News of his death was quite a shock here as he was in town last Saturday trading. The Enterprise extends condolence to the bereaved wife and relatives. (20 Jul 1905, Greer County Republican, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): Died, about 2 a.m. Tuesday at his home about five miles east of Erick, Mr. P. (sic) E. Singleton. Death came quite unexpectedly to Mr. Singleton's friends. He was at work plowing Monday morning, but on account of severe pain in his bowels was compelled to stop work about noon. He grew rapidly worse and suffered intense pain until the end came. Dr. Wells, who attended Mr. Singleton, says his death was caused by a stoppage in the intestines. The deceased was forty years of age and is survived by a wife and four children to whom the Republican offers condolence. Mr. Singleton's remains were interred in Erick cemetery Thursday afternoon. Rev. W. J. Hale conducted the funeral service. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
