(3 Jun 1909, Thursday, Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): B. F. Sutherland, living north of Erick, died last Friday evening of malarial fever. He was 68 years of age. Mr. Sutherland came here about two years ago from Fulton county, Ark. The remains were shipped there for interment. The entire community extends sympathy to the bereaved mother and children in their hour of sorrow. (3 Jun 1909, Erick Altruist, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): DIED. Mr. B. F. Sutherland died last Friday, May 28, about 2 o'clock, after a short illness, although he had been in frail health for several months. Mr. Sutherland was born in Franklin county, Tenn., Oct. 29, 1842. He spent his childhood days there and moved to Arkansas when he was 11 years old, where he continued to live until about two years ago when he came to Beckham county. Although he had been a resident here for only about two years, he had during that time become endeared to a large circle of friends. He was for forty years a faithful member of the Methodist church. He was an ex-Confederate soldier and also a member of the Oddfellows, and brothers of that fraternity assisted Rev. W. M. Taylor in conducting funeral services at the home. The remains were taken to Sayre Friday night and from there was shipped to Camp, Ark., where interment was made. His two sons, J. N. and D. W. Sutherland accompanied the remains. Mr. Sutherland is survived, besides his widow, by 9 children as follows: J. N., D. W., and J. F. Sutherland of Camp, Ark., Mrs. Frank Ellis, of Aetna Green, Okla., Mesdames T. J. McElyea, J. S. White, Clede Pierson and Miss Geneva Sutherland of Erick. (Note: Only 8 children named) His surviving sisters are Mrs. A. T. Pierson of Erick, Mrs. Estes of Leads, S. D., Mrs. Cane of Camp, Ark., and Mrs. Givens of Snyder, Texas.
