(6 Jan 1910, Erick Altruist, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): The people of this community were shocked as the news spread last New Years morning that George T. Wileman who lived about six miles southeast of Erick had died at his home Dec. 31st, 1909, after an illness of short duration. His sturdy constitution enabled him to continue active in his accustomed pursuits until a few days before his death and because of this the news of his death was more shocking to his wide circle of acquaintances all of whom were his friends. Deceased was 55 years, 3 months and 23 days old at the time of his death. He became a Christian when he was 12 years old and maintained unswerving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as his redeemer. He was invariably a good neighbor and his best monument will be the good report he has left behind him in the community in which he lived. He was a man of fine social qualities of splendid character and unimpeachable integrity. Mr. Wileman was born in Coffey county, Tenn., removed to southwestern Missouri in childhood and from there to this county about eight years ago. He is survived by his widow Mrs. Lizzie Wileman and two brothers, Mesers James M. of Erick and Joseph H. Wileman, who lives about five miles South of this place. Interment was made at Erick cemetery New Year's Day in a grave beside that of his father, who died less than one year ago. Rev. Wagner, pastor of the Pentacostal church of the Nazarene preached the funeral sermon. The people of this community all of whom knew, respected and loved George Wileman most deeply sympathize with his bereaved relatives in this loss of a devoted husband and faithful brother and considerate uncle. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
