At the home of his son, James M. Wileman, ten miles south of Erick, Jan. 3, 1909, Mr. J. C. Wileman, at the advanced age of 82 years. Mr. Wileman suffered a fall on Christmas day from the effects of which he never recovered although at the time it was not thought the hurt was serious. Mr. Wileman was a charming old gentleman and although he had been in frail health for a long time he was an interesting talker, optomistic and cheerful to the last. He was a member of the Methodist church and had lived a consistent christian life from boyhood. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity and his Masonic brethren bestowed the last beautiful rites of that order at his funeral. Rev. Elder preached the funeral sermon. Brother Wileman is survived by four daughters, three sons and innumerable grandchildren. His sons, James., Geo. T., and Joseph H. Wileman, all live in this vicinity - 10 miles south of Erick. (7 Jan 1909, Thursday, Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): J. C. Wileman was born Nov. 17, 1826, in Alabama, was reared and married in Tennessee, and died Jan. 3, 1909, aged 82 years, 1 month and 14 days. He was married to Lucindy Roberts Aug. 27, 1848. From this union there are three surviving sisters and four brothers. Three of the brothers, George T., James M., and Joseph H. Wileman reside south of town. He came to Oklahoma last spring to live with his sons. He has been an invalid from disease and age for a number of years which fact rendered him only the dearer to those who had God's charge to honor him. At an early age he professed religion and dwelt much upon the things of God. He was early affiliated with the Methodist church and died in that faith. He is preceded to the Great Beyond by his wife and four children. Brother Wileman was buried in the Erick cemetery on the 4th inst. We extend our heart felt sympathy to the sons and daughters of our deceased brother and wish for them the comfort of our God, and the support of His divine grace. Jno. F. Elder. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
