  Funeral services will be con-
ducted from the Martin Funeral
chapel Monday at 10:30a.m. for
Gladys Gowdy.  Mrs. Gowdy died in
a Guymon nursing home Thursday
evening at the age of 85.
  Gladys Gowdy was born in Cam-
by, Minn., Oct. 3, 1901.  She moved to
Oklahoma City with her parents 
when she was a young girl and the
family lived there for a short time,
then they moved to the Sandstone
Community just northwest of Elk Ci-
ty.  She attended school there and
finished her education in the St.
Joseph Catholic School in Elk City.
  Jan. 29, 1925 she married William
L. Gowdy in Elk City, and he preced-
ed her in death Feb. 15, 1961.  She was 
a lifelong member of the First Bap-
tist Church in Elk City, and she serv-
ed in her church in all church ac-
tivities until her health failed.  She
spent her spare time in gardening
around her home where she received
much pleasure.
  Survivors include her son, Billy
Ray Gowdy, of Elk City, and one
daughter, Ms. Shirley Ann Carey of 
Oklahoma City; 8 grandchildren and 
12 great-grandchildren.  Commital
will be next to her husband in the
Fairlawn Cemetery.
