All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************** HOHENSHELT, JAMES EARL B. 08 Jan 1878 D. 06 Oct 1962 Sayre-Doxey Cemetery Beckham Co OK H/O Maggie(Winn) M. 02 Nov 1905 Funeral services for James Earl Hohenshelt, 402 North third street, Sayre Beckham county pioneer, who died suddenly at the Sayre hospital Saturday, will be held Tuesday at 2:30p.m. at the First Methodist church with Rev. Daris M. Parker officiating. Born January 8, 1878, in Winneshick county, Iowa, Mr. Hohenshelt came to western Oklahoma in 1898 and settled near old Doxey. He was married to Maggie Winn at Cheyenne November 2, 1905. In 1911 he moved to Sayre. Formerly he was deputy sheriff for 30 years and had served as justice of the peace the past ten years. He was courthouse custodian several years. He has been a member of the Methodist church since 1912 and was active in the Men's Bible class. He served with the fire department 20 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one brother. Survivors are his wife of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Ethel Clifner of Westminister, California; two sons, Arnold of Fresno, and Carl of Bakersfield, California; one sister Mrs. Bell Caldwell, Long Beach, California; one brother, Marty Hohenshelt, Long Beach, California; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Pall bearers will be Earl Edwards, Earl Hill, Jimmie Hues, Cletis Killian, Bud Robinson, Pun Fuller. Committal will be in the Sayre-Doxey cemetery with Moore Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
