OK W/O Morris Mr. and Mrs. Mike Martin of Long Beach, California, are vis- iting with old friends in this city this week, having come through with the remains of Mrs. Mar- tain's mother, the late Mrs. Ho- henshelt. Mr. Martin had not visited Sayre in nearly twelve years, and finds many changes from conditions at the time he left here. Mrs. Jake Kroker, formerly of this city, but now residing at ElReno, came down Saturday to attend the funeral of Grandma Hohenshelt, remaining over un- til Monday afternoon to visit with old friends. Sayre Journal 22 Nov 1923 Word was received here Wed- nesday morning stating that Grandma Hohenshelt died to Fos- ter, California, on last Tuesday night. Her body will be shipod to the city for burial and is ex- pected to arrive here Saturday. Sayre Sun 25 Oct 1923 "Grandma" Hohenshelt, a pio- neer resident of this section and city, but who for several years, has been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Mike Martin, in California died on Tuesday last, word being telegraphed to this city that night. The remains will be brought here for burial, the funeral party being expected to reach this city Saturday noon. Interment will be in the Doxey-Sayre cemetery. Mrs. Hohenshelt was the mother of the last Sanford Ho- henshelt, and of Earl Hohenshelt of this city, and Chas. Honhen- shelt of the Doxey section. Her long residence in and adjacent to this city gave her a wide ac- quaintance, she being familiarly known as "Grandma" Hohen- shelt to nearly every resident up to the time of her going to Cali- fornia. She was a lady very highly respected by her old neighbors and although she had lived to a ripe old ate (over 80) her death will be sincerely re- gretted by all. Sayre Headlight 8 Nov 1923
