All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ HAWKINS, ALBERT EDWARD (29 Oct 1925, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Albert Edward Hawkins, postmaster at Canute, died at his home in Canute, Friday, October 23, 1925. Funeral services were held in Canute by a Canute minister. Burial was made in the Canute cemetery. His age being 42 years and 4 months. Obituary: Albert E. Hawkins was born June 23, 1883, in Dedham, Carroll County, Iowa, departed this life October 23, 1925 from his home in Canute, Oklahoma. He came with his parents to Oklahoma in the fall of 1898. They settled near Canute where he has lived since that time until his death. He was united in marriage to Minnie Patterson, June 5, 1908, to this union were born three children. August 1, 1914 his wife was taken from his life. He was again united in marriage to Nora Abbott of Seiling, Oklahoma, October 4, 1916, to this union were born five children. When he was about 21 years of age he was converted and soon afterward united with the Free Methodist church of which he remained a faithful member until his death. Albert as he was commonly known was a kind loving husband and father, a true friend, and a consistent christian. He has been engaged in farming near Canute was rural mail carrier out of the Canute Post Office for nine years then he resigned and went back to farming, in May 1922 he was appointed Postmaster of the Canute Office which office he has since filled to the satisfaction of the many patrons, and has built up the service of the office. He always labored to build up and uplift the community. He leaves to mourn their loss wife, eight children, three girls and five boys, two sisters who live in Iowa, three brothers, one in California, one in Nebraska, one in Elk City, many other relatives, and a host of friends. He had made arrangements for his funeral having selected the preacher, the text, and three hymns. Rev. A. R. Martin preached the funeral at the Church in Canute assisted by Rev. P. M. Shipley. The interment was in the Canute cemetery in charge of Grubitz and Son of Elk City. A large crowd of friends attended the funeral. Postmaster E. C.
