A Obituaries Nana Boal Hedlund (Picture) Nana Boal Hedlund. died Saturday, August 7, 2004. She was born to Foster and Minnie Blount Boal on November 4, 1915 near Hammon, Oklahoma. Nana's mother died during the "flu" epidemic of 1918, so she was raised by her grandmother Ida Blount. After graduating from Hammon High School she attended nursing school and received her LPN certificate. On May 16, 1938 she was united in marriage to Rudolf Hedlund of Elk City. This union was blessed with a daughter, Brita Ann. Nana worked at the Community Hospital of Elk City, and then at the offices of Dr. L.V. Baker Sr. and Dr. Bill Husband. She retired in 1980. In the early nineties she moved in with Brita's family where she helped maintain the household and care for Brita who suffered from Multiple Sclerosis. She also helped nurse her son-in-law Rodney through cancer. Nana came to live at the Forest Hills Assisted Living Center in 2001 where she remained until her death. Nana lived a life of service to her family and many friends. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her love and compassion for the sick ans lonely. She will also be remembered for her fun sense of humor and sparkling wit. She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandmother, her husband, her son-in-law, Rodney, and her daughter, Brita. She is survived by her granddaughter Malisa Waldrop and her husband Jeffrey, her granddaughter Amanda Bingaman and her husband Brock, and her great-granddaughters, Morgan and Makenna Waldrop and Mia Bingaman. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2 pm at the Redeemer Covenant Church in Tulsa.
