All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Sayre-Doxey Cemetery--Sayre OK The Sayre Daily Headlight, Sunday, March 18, 1973 pg 1 Bulletin Funeral services are pending at Sayre for Cloud Hodgson, age 53, Norman pharmacist, formerly of Sayre, who died suddenly today at Norman. He was a WW2 U.S. bombardier, who was shot down over Germany and a prisoner of war 18 months. He is survived by his wife, Mary of the home and two sons, O'Brian and Roey of Norman; one grandchild; one brother, Garth of Oklahoma City. The Sayre Daily Headlight, Monday, March 19, 1973 pg 1 C. Hodgson Monday rites are held Funeral services for Cloud Hodgson, 532 Dee Anne Drive, Norman, were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the United Methodist church. He died suddenly Saturday of a heart attack at Norman hospital. Rev. Gordon Patterson officiated. Born November 11, 1919 at Forgan, Okla., Mr. Hodgson attended and graduated from Doxey high school. He graduated from Sayre Junior College and received a B.S. degree in the school of pharmacy, SWSC, Weatherford. He was an all around athlete in track events and basketball and 4-H speech, journalism in high school. He later was an employee of the Ute Theatre of Sayre and was a civilian pilot trainee at Altus. He served in WW2 as bombardier, navigator and pilot. He entered the US army Air Corp in February 1942 at San Antonio, Tex., for bombardier training and graduated and received his wings at Midland, Tex. in 1943. He was married to Mary Taylor January 23, 1943 in the Airforce chapel, Midland, Tex. First Lt. Hodgson completed three phases in advanced training and went overseas in November 1943 and was with the Eighth Airforce based in England. He was shot down February 10, 1944 over Germany and was in Stalag Luft No. 1 a German war prison 18 months. He had a distinguished military service including air medals the Purple Heart. Following discharge from the service in January 1946 he operated the Dodge-Plymouth Dealership at Sayre. The family moved to Norman in 1953 where he was employed as a retail pharmacist in Oklahoma City and Norman areas. At the time of his death he was a pharmacist with the state department of mental health in Norman. He was a member of the United Methodist church in Norman. Survivors are his wife of the home; two sons, D. O'Brian and wife, Jeanette, and Rory Shane, all of Norman; one grandson, Lars Dylan Taylor Hodgson of Norman; one brother, Garth of Oklahoma City; one aunt, Mrs. W.L. Ivester, Sayre; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Harold Taylor of Sayre. Pallbearers were Jack Price, Garth Russell, Bill Spence, Otha Inman, Clyde Wright, Jimmie Legate of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother.
