Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with the Rev. Kathryn Boren, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Panhandle, officiating. Mrs. Howell was born in Dallas, then her family moved to the Rio Grande Valley in south Texas, then to Elk City, Okla., before moving to Amarillo in 1952. She retired from the Clements Unit where she worked as a correctional officer. She attended Second Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Guy Wayne Pigg and Woody Howell, both of Amarillo; three daughters, Faye Palmeter of Stinnett, Rhenea Dawkins of Amarillo and Rachell Pool of Panhandle; two brothers, Harland Pierce of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Kenneth Pierce of Santa Fe, N.M.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family will be at 308 N. Johnson St. in Amarillo. In tears we saw you sinking, and watched you pass away. Our hearts were almost broken, we wanted you to stay. But when we saw you sleeping, so peaceful, free from pain, how could we wish you back with us, to suffer that again. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone, for part of us went with you, the day God took you home.
