Wilmer was born in Elk City, Oklahoma on June 3, 1940, to Ruth and Wilmer W. Hughes. Leon moved his family to Truxton, Arizona in 1966 from New Mexico. He worked for the Arizona State Highway Department for 9 years. He then went to work at the Nelson Lime Plant, where he retired after 26 years. He helped the 4-H kids from Valentine to Peach Springs long after his three girls were gone. Leon became an Ordained Music Minister of Christ in 2007, and he became a board member of the County Gospel Music Association in the same year. He was active member of the Seligman Christian Fellowship Cowboy Church. Leon will be greatly missed by his family, friends, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Wilmer W. He is survived by his wife, Jerry, of 51 years of Truxton; mother Ruth Hughes of Oklahoma; sister Sandy Tupin and Rohnnie of New Mwxico; 3 daughters, Darla Thompson and John of California; Denis (DeeDee) Overson and Darwin of Kingman, Arizona; Dawn (Charlie) Fancher of Kingman, Arizona; 8 grandchildren and host of other family and friends.
