Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Wheeler School Gymnasium in Wheeler with Rodney Minor, minister of Second and Adams Church of Christ in Elk City, Okla., and the Rev. John Westman of First United Methodist Church of Shamrock officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home. Mr. Cole was born to Pete and Laurie Ann Sparlin Cole on Sept. 14, 1986, in Shamrock. He was a sophomore at Wheeler High School. J.D. was involved in football, basketball and was a member of Future Farmers of America. He lettered in football as a freshman and as a sophomore. J.D. was a junior volunteer fireman for Wheeler Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, golf and fishing. He planned to attend mechanic school and design race cars. J.D. attended United Methodist Church in Shamrock and Church of Christ in Elk City. Survivors include his father, of Wheeler; his mother, of Elk City; a brother, Russell Archer of Elk City; his grandparents, Vonnie Harris of Kelton and Glen and Faye Sparlin of Eufaula, Okla.; an aunt, Karen Harris of Kelton; and an uncle, Jack Sparlin of Wheeler. The family suggests memorials be to J.D. Cole Scholarship Fund in care of Wheeler High School, Wheeler, TX 79096. Amarillo Globe-News, April 9, 2003
