All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ Lawrence George Fanisher BORGER - Lawrence George "Bill'' Fanisher, 76, died Friday, Sept. 5, 1997. Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Trinity Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Scott Cundiff, pastor, and the Rev. Dennis Knight of Port Neches, officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Devotion at Highland Park Cemetery by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. Fanisher was born in Elk City, Okla., and moved to Borger in 1953 with his family. He served in the Marines at Guam and Iwo Jima during World War II and was one of the men guarding and protecting the men at the famous "Raising the Flag.'' He worked for Phillips for 30 years and retired in 1982. Survivors include his wife, Frances Fanisher; a daughter, Lucille Dow; two sons, Larry Fanisher and LeRoy Fanisher; two brothers, Arthur Fanisher of Arapaho, Okla., and Earl Wayne Fanisher of West Palm Beach, Fla.; four sisters, Fannie Fanisher, Caroline Armstrong, Ruby Winn and Drucilla Ferris, all of Elk City, Okla; and seven grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the Gideons.
