Services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the First Christian Church with the Rev. Irvin Stanke officiating. Burial was in the Hooker Cemetery by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Smothermon was born in Courtney and was raised in the Winsboro, Texas, area. She was the owner and operator of Doris' Curios at Hooker and also worked at the 54 Diner and Al's Superburger. She helped her daughter-inlaw at Sue's Daylight Donut. She was a member of the First Christian Church where she served as a deaconess as well as a member of the CWF. Survivors include her husband, Roy Lee; a son, Roy Henry Smothermon of Hooker; a daughter, Patricia Houpt of Fairplay, Colo.; four brothers, Kenneth Spence of Quitman, Texas, Marvin Spence of Fairview, Okla., Bill Spence of Guymon and Robert Spence of Elk City; three sisters, Faye Burkett of Clovis, N.M., Nelda Brines of Guymon and Loyce Gonzalles of Omaha, Neb.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the Hooker First Christian Church or the American Diabetes Foundation c/o Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, Okla. 73945.
