Turner Gary J. Turner, 55, of Amarillo died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Polk Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marty Hamrick, associate pastor, and the Rev. Toni Bailey, pastor of the United Methodist Church in White Deer, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Turner was born in Erick, Okla., and had lived in Amarillo most of his life. He graduated from White Deer High School in 1964. He was a graduate of West Texas State University where he was a member of the ATO social fraternity. He was also a graduate of Southern Methodist University, School of Banking. He came back to Amarillo and served as the assistant trust officer of First National Bank. He later moved to Borger where he was the trust officer of the Panhandle Bank & Trust. In 1984 he moved to the East Texas National Bank in Palestine where he was the trust officer. In 1987 he moved back to Amarillo and founded and owned Prospera Financial Services in 1993. He currently was president and boss lion of the Amarillo Downtown Lions Club. He served on the board of directors of the Lions Eye Bank. He was treasurer of the Lions High Plains Eye Bank and also served as treasurer of Lions District 2T1 from 2000 to 2001. He was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Sheryn; seven sons, James Turner of Dallas, Joel Law and wife, Kim, of Canyon, Jon Law and wife, Tammy, of Galva, Kan., Brent Turner and wife, Amy, of Hurst, and Scott Turner, Jason Turner and Brian Turner, all of Amarillo; his mother, Mary Ellen Turner of White Deer; five grandsons; and a granddaughter. The family suggests memorials be to Lions Hi-Plains Eye Bank, 1501 S. Coulter, Amarillo, TX 79106; or the Diabetes Foundation, P.O. Box 50433, Amarillo, TX 79159.
