MURIEL CECELIA JOHNS *Note* Muriel Cecelia JOHNS b.12 Mar 1894 d.13 Mar 1929 buried Carter cemetery*Carter,Beckham Co.,Ok., w/o W.H.JOHNS ************************************************************ Muriel Cecelia JOHNS was born in Michigan March 12,1894,died at her home 7 miles east of Carter,March 13,1929,age 35 years,1 day.Funeral services were held at the cemetery at 5 p.m.Interment in Carter cemetery.GENTRY-KOLLOUGH in charge. *Note*James JOHNS b.20 Feb 1917 d.16 Mar 1929 buried Carter cemetery *Carter,Beckham Co.,Ok., s/o W.H. & Muriel Cecelia ************************************************************ The 12 year old son of Mr.and Mrs.W.H.JOHNS died March 16,1929.Funeral services and interment was made in Carter cemetery.GENTRY-KILLOUGH in charge. FARMER and FIVE CHILDREN SURVIVE DEATH OF MOTHER,SON,and DAUGHTER W.H.JOHNS,farmer living 7 miles east of Carter,and five young children are bowed with grief over the loss of three of their family who were claimed by death last week. Flu,similiar to the fatal kind prevalent during the epidemic of 1918,is believed to have been the cause of the deaths by doctors who held a Post Mortem after the third death occured Saturday. No one of the stricken members of the family were ill over eighteen hours.The four year old girl Wilda Helen JOHNS,was the first victim and died March 11 after an illness of scarcely sixteen hours.Returning from the funeral services which were held at Carter cemetery,Mrs.JOHNS became ill and after intense suffering of about eighteen hours she died March 13,one day after her thiry fifth bithday.March 15 the third grave was dug by the two fresh mounds at Carter cemetery,when the third victim in the family,a twelve year old boy,was claimed by this dread disease. Thursday morning,March 21,at 3:00 o'clock a.m.,the fourth member of the JOHNS family was stricken with death after a brief illness since noon Wednesday.Ruth JOHNS,aged fourteen,had entered a local hospital Wednesday afternoon with only slight complaints of being ill.Her sister Bessie Mae was also brought to a local hospital but was removed after the death of Ruth. This was the fourth death that has occured in the JOHNS family in a period of ten days.Three graves were dug last week for the mother and two children,and the death of Ruth made the fourth,Thursday. The father W.H.JOHNS,who farms seven miles east of Carter,is dazed with grief for his lost ones and terror of aprehension lest the remainder of his family be stricken by the fatal malady. Flu of the kind prevalent during the epidemic of 1918 is believed by physicians to be the cause of the deaths.Four children from the former seven in the family and the father survive,the deceased mother,brother and two sisters.
