KEARNS Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Kearns died in Elk City, Okla., March 11th, 1924, aged seventy-three years. She was married to James J. Kearns in the fall of 1868, at Knoxville, Tenn. Kearns, who lived at Forgan, died in November 1918 and one daughter, Mrs. J. H. Wallace of Shattuck, who died in December 1918. She joined the Baptist Church in her early girlhood and was a beautiful Christian character. A stranger who saw her in her last sleep said she must have been loved much and was one who loved for she looked so young for one of her age, and the sweet face, so free from lines of care and worry was a tribute to the beautiful life she had lived and the love and care bestowed upon her by her loved ones when she lived. Her neighbors speak words of praise for her, saying there never was a better woman or kinder neighbor. Funeral services were held Friday, March 14th, at the Baptist Church, conducted beautifully by Rev. E. D. Hamilton and Rev. Sebe Thomas. The pall bearers were from the Masonic lodge of which Mr. Kearns is a member. They were Messrs. E. C. Searcy, Chas. Johnson L. D. Young, W. L. Blackburn, John Klopfenstein and Jesse Ragan. Special songs "Abide with me" and "Lead Kindly Light" were sung by the choir. There were many floral offerings among them being one a beautiful wreath from the Masons and one from the Sophomore class of which Harry Kearns, a grandson, is a member. He has made his home with his grandparents. Interment in charge of Grubitz & Son was in the Fairlawn cemetery. ************************************************** Copyright.
