OK H/O Beulah Margaret [Vincent] M. 3 Dec 1921 Vernon Mason Kendall, 91, of Sayre died Monday night in the Bap- tist Health Center in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be at 10 a. m. Thursday in Sayre 1st Baptist Chur- ch, with Lynn Heard officiating. Burial will be in the Sayre-Doxy cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service of Sayre. Mr. Kendall was born Feb. 16, 1897 in Georges Creek, Texas. He moved to Day County, Oklahoma territory, later named Roger Mills County in spring of 1900. He attended school at Wild Horse, Roll, and Strong City. He volunteered for military service in 1917 and was assigned to Company F, 16th U. S. In- fantry, 1st Army Division. He served in France and Germany from June 26, 1917 to Sept. 29, 1919. He was a prisoner of war in Germany from Nov. 3, 1917 to Dec. 7, 1918. After his release from prison he was in a military hospital for a month and he volunteered to go back into Ger- many to rejoin the 1st div. for guard duty along the Rhine river. He married Margaret Beulah Vin- cent Dec. 3, 1921 in Hammon, Okla., and they lived in Ranking for 19 years, moving to Sayre in 1940. He was a member of the American Legion since 1930. He served 6 con- secutive years as commander of Legion Post 151 at Reydon. After moving to Sayre he served one year as commander of Legion Post 146' one year as district vice com- mander; one year as district membership chairman. He served 10 years as county chairman of Beckham County Chapter of American Red Cross and POW Relief Committee. He was rural mail carrier in Rankin and Reydon from 1921-1940. He worked in the U. S. Post Office in Sayre form 1940 until retiring in 1960. He was elected justice of the peace in Sayre in 1962, serving until 1968. he was appointed Sayre Municipal Judge in 1968, retir- ing in 1975. He was a member of Sayre First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, Bill. Sur- vivors are: one daughter-in-law, La Veda Kendall, of Oklahoma City; one grandson, Mark Kendall and wife Donna, of Oklahoma City; one grand-daughter Belinda and Hus- band Aubrey Harper, of Mustang; tow great-grand-children; tow brothers; Sam Kendall, al Elk City; Clyde Kendal, Cove, Ark.; two sisters, Vivian Kendall, of Cheyenne; and Bernice Short, of Sayre.
