The little fellow had picked up a match somewhere and strolling off to the barn while his father was asleep he set fire to some straw near the door of the barn and it is thought that the flames cut him off from the door and caused him to climb back on top of some headed feed in the rear crib that the fire was started in.The hay being dry and the wind blowing hard the fire must have burned very rapidly as it was under such headway when discovered that it was impossible to get into the building.A crowd of men soon gathered and throwing water on the fire finally got it subdued to where they could get the charred body of the child out At the time of the accident Mrs.MAGNESS and one of the older children were suffering with suvere burns on their feet caused a few days prior while they were carring a tub of hot lye water, the boy stumbling and falling and spilling the hot water on both himself and mother, burning the feet and lower limbs of both severely ,and Mrs.MAGNESS was unable to walk when the terrible tragedy happened Sunday.Just before the accident Mr.MAGNESS laid down across the bed with little Ray,to try to get him to sleep but instead of the boy going to sleep he got up and procured a match in some way and went to the barn with the sad results. Burial of the remains was made in the Carter cemetery late Sunday evening. Mr.MAGNESS and family certainly have the heartfelt symathy of the people of Carter and surrounding country in their sad hour.We know it is hard indeed to have to give up a loving child in such a sudden and tragic end and it is only but natural that we all deeply sympathize with the grief-stricken family for we realize that it has been the saddest hour of their lives..
