Matthews who died Friday, July 22, 1977 at the Community Hospital were conducted from the Martin Funeral Home Chapel. Monday, July 25, 1977 at 2:00 p.m. with Bros. F.F. Conley minister of the Second and Adams Street Church of Christ officiating. Burial followed in the Red Hill Cmetery, Hammon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. Mr. Matthews was born, May 16, 1895 at Austin, Texas. He moved from Texas to Erick when he was a small child. He joined the Church of Christ while living at Erick. In 1925 he moved to Hammon. He had lived in the Hammon and Elk City area since. He was a retired Plater Contractor. Survivors include 3 sons: L.H. Matthews, of Oklahoma City; Milo Matthews of Arapaho; and Lawrence Matthews of Tuscon, Arizona; 1 sister Vila of Hutchison, Kansas; and 1 brother, J.H. Matthews of Lawton, OK. Also 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
