All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Sayre-Doxey Cemetery--Sayre OK OBITUARY by Whinery Funeral Service Ernest Eugene Moses was born August 4, 1948 in Elk City, Oklahoma to Edna Marie (Khourie) Moses and Solomon Ernest Moses. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 20, 2019 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 70 years, 11 months and 16 days. Gene grew up in Sayre where he graduated from Sayre High School in 1966. He attended Sayre Junior College and Southwestern State University in Weatherford, OK. He returned to Sayre after college and began working with his parents as the managing partner in Sol's Western Wear for 25 years. Gene was extremely active in civic and government activities that included serving 29 years for the City of Sayre as Mayor, Vice-Mayor, Council Member as well as serving on the Sayre Public Works Commission, Police Commission and the Wage and Hour Committee. Gene served on the Sayre Fire Department for twenty years. In civic life he was a member of the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, and the Sagebrush Group Home. Gene was also President of the All Sports Association and Golden Spread Housing. He had also served as the Chairman for Sayre Memorial Hospital and its foundation board. He was on the Community Action Development Corporation and the CCA Advisory Commission. In the political arena he had been appointed by four Oklahoma Governors to the Merit Protection Commission where he served for over 18 years. Gene served on the Professional Responsibility Tribunal Board for 9 years. He also had served as an advisory member for Congressman Frank Lucas and U S Senator James Lankford. Gene was the campaign chairman for Richard L. Dugger, District II in 1994 and 1998. He also served on the Citizen Advisory Commission as Chairman for the Oklahoma State Reformatory in Granite, Oklahoma; the District Two Community Sentencing Advisory Council, and was a precinct inspector and clerk for 15 years. Gene was an active member of the Sayre First Baptist Church, served as a trustee and was head usher for 10 years and the Assistant Sunday School Superintendent for 6 years.He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, Michael Wayne Moses.He is survived by a host of loving relatives and friends Services will be held Saturday, July 27, 2019, 10:30 AM at the Sayre First Baptist Church. Visitation will be Thursday and Friday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM at Rose Chapel, Sayre. Burial will be in the Sayre-Doxey Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church for the new projection system. Burial will be at Sayre-Doxey Cemetery.
