Newspaper RUTH PORTER Ruth PORTER was born February 23, 1896 in Grandview, Texas to Beulah and Frank BOND and died May 22 in the Sayre Memorial Hospital at the age of 99. Ruth moved with her parents west of Sayre in 1901 and later attended North Star School. She married Vol PORTER on December 24, 1915 in Sayre where she began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone as an operator in April of 1922. She worked there until 1944 when she transferred to Portland, Oregon, remaining there a few months before she transferred back to Sayre where she worked until retiring in 1961 with 39 years of service. She spent the time after her retirement traveling with her husband, Vol to Arkansas, California and Washington visiting relatives and friends. She remained in Sayre where she shared her home with her grandson, Barry. In 1994, she moved to the Hensley Nursing Home due to health reasons. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Rose Chapel officiated by David CLEWELL. Interment will be in the Lone Oak Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service. Survivors include: one son, A.W. and wife Tina of San Diego, California; five grandchildren, Barbara FAIRLESS and husband Ken of Huntington Beach, California, Kim PORTER and wife Susan, Lokeni PORTER and Matthew PORTER, all of San Diego, California, and Barry PORTER of Sayre; four great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Francis WHITEHEAD of Sayre; and one cousin, Loudene SUTTON of Sayre.
