He passed away July 6, 2010 at Clinton, Oklahoma at the age of 87 years, 2 months and 29 days. While Delbert was a baby his parents moved to a farm near Sayre, Oklahoma. In 1937 the family moved south of Durham and he attended Crawford Schools. In 1943 he entered the United States Army where he was in the 418th Military Police and Escort Guard during World War II serving in France, Germany and England. After his discharge in 1946, he returned home and finished his education at Crawford, Oklahoma. He was married to Maggie Lee "Toots" Lucas at Canadian, Texas on December 3, 1947. After their marriage, Delbert and Toots moved to various places across the Texas Panhandle, Oklahoma and Kansas following Delberts career choice. In 1956, Delbert moved his family to the old family farm near Durham until 1975 when they moved to Custer City, Oklahoma. In 1982 they moved back to Roger Mills County to make their home. In 1986 Delbert retired and enjoyed raising calves, gardening and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Toots, 1 brother, J.B. Powers and 3 sisters, Velma Walker, Mae Koppy, Jeanne Lowery. Survived by his 2 sons, John Powers and wife, Kay, Reydon, Oklahoma; and Rick Powers and wife, Susan, Reydon, Oklahoma; 2 daughters, Nelda Pennington and husband, Don, Reydon, Oklahoma; and Danna Kent and husband, Monte, Clinton, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren, Darla Rogers, Perry Pennington, and Wesley Powets, Janna Markham, and Gayla Smith, Audrey Kinnaman, and Paul Powers, L.D. Powers, and Lynsi Kent, Taylor Kent, and Conner Kent, 14 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Jack Powers and wife, Joann, Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Jim Powers and wife, Lorraine, Shawnee, Oklahoma; 1 sister, Opal Stephenson, El Reno, Oklahoma; and a host of other relatives and friends. Services were held July 8, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Reydon Community Building officiated by Chuck Milner. Burial followed at Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Home Service.
